Pupils help plant trees at village hall

The hall celebrates its diamond anniversary this year and a series of improvements, including the tree planting, are planned to take it into the future.

The youngsters, accompanied by head teacher Mrs Gillian Leadbetter-Smith, were members of the School Council, which has representatives from all years in the school, from Reception to Year 5. They took along I-Pads to take pictures of the event for school records.

Three trees- all flowering cherry, Prunus Serrula- were provided by The Big Plant Nursery, with Bruce Jordan undertaking the planting, helped by school council representative Tye, from Year 3.

Mrs Leadbetter-Smith said: “ The School Council is very pro-active and even has its own reporter. It organises fundraising and is buying toys and equipment for its own sheds in the school playground through this. Outside staging is its next project. The school is delighted to take part in this event today, because it is very much a part of the community.”

The tree-planting scheme follows on from the purchase of 60- upholstered chairs for the village hall last month, and in April a new village hall website and Facebook page will be launched- while other enhancements identified for the premises this year include a sound system and ambient lighting.

To help achieve this a number of fundraising events are planned, with the next one on Saturday May 10 when The Allsorts present a Variety Music Hall.
