The money was raised from pub quizzes held throughout the year - every fortnight on a Tuesday.

The pub itself has a heart defibrillator installed and all staff are trained in its use should a cardiac arrest occur.

“We are delighted to help this very worthwhile cause which has saved so many lives in the village,” said Gyles.

HART chairman Dick Nye said: “Thanks to fund-raising events like these we are able to continue operating and maintaining the service.”

There are currently 11 responders and 28 defibrillators in the village, 14 of them in public access areas.
