The Wey & Arun Canal Trust (WACT) is pleased to announce that Dave Verrall has expanded his role within the organisation and will now act as Canal Centre Supervisor, as well as continuing with his publicity and social media work and canal restoration duties.

Dave has said that he is already enjoying his new volunteer role with WACT: “Since opening in 2012, the Centre has been very successful and increasingly busy. We have new sales lines that we will be introducing this year including a new updated edition of our popular ‘Restoration Guide’. It is a great place to welcome our boat trip passengers and other visitors to the canal. The majority of my working career has been involved with customer service and I enjoy talking to our visitors about the history of the canal, our restoration progress and our exciting plans for the future of the canal.

“I have been a member of the Trust for many years. I semi-retired from work a couple of years ago and I was looking for something else to keep me occupied. So I joined WACT’s Midweek Working Party team of volunteers. I enjoyed this so much that I soon became involved in other activities including helping in the Canal Centre.”

He will work with Canal Centre Manager, Lyn Nash, and the Centre is now open from 1pm to 5pm on Tuesday and Thursdays and from 11am to 4pm at the weekend.

Report contributed by Sally Schupke, chairman of The Wey & Arun Canal Trust.
