Over the last four years the Swimarathon has raised over £18,000 for Horsham Lions Club which has resulted in £10,000 being donated to the South East Lions Air Ambulance Night Flying Appeal plus equipping the ‘soft play area and part of The Sensory Room’, at The Horsham Springboard Project Centre as well as purchasing four portable defibrillators for our local Secondary Schools and The QE II School for children with disabilities.

In 2016 we are supporting two community based charities, namely Hop, Skip and Jump and The Butterfly Project, who respectively support children and young adults with a variety of physical and learning difficulties.

Hop Skip and Jump, opened its centre’s doors in Swan Walk in mid-2015. It provides care for anyone with special needs for up to 2 hours, through its soft play, sensory room and wet room areas.

Professionally trained staff provides fun activities, thus allowing parents or carers some free time.

In order to expand the types of activities, Hop Skip and Jump are looking to purchase a variety of equipment, total cost £3150.

The Butterfly Project, has its own shop and workshops at 31 Springfield Road Horsham. It provides young adults with both learning and physical disabilities, with opportunities to work by undertaking local paper rounds, woodwork and metal work, cooking, gardening, watering plants at local stations, DJ skills and music technology.

In addition these young adults are taught how to reach the location of these jobs by using local transport. The Butterfly Project is in need of wheelchairs for use by these young people as well as other equipment.

Horsham Lions Club will also donate its share of the money raised from the 2016 Swimarathon to the above charities including the tax recovered under Gift Aid.

Would you please therefore ensure that any sponsors who pay tax place a tick in the Gift Aid column and complete the necessary personal details on the sponsorship form.

The other half of the money raised by your swim will go to a good cause of your choice,. This can be your favourite charity, your club funds or maybe your school. You can, of course, join with us to support our chosen beneficiaries. The decision is yours; all we ask is that you help us raise as much money as possible.

Taking part is very easy; there is no entry fee. You will need a team of up to six swimmers plus an adult non-swimming team captain. All ages can take part, from eight to 70 inclusive.

There could be up to eight teams swimming each hour. The first teams start swimming at 1pm, with other teams starting on the hour until 4pm when the last teams will start their swim.
