LETTER: Shock at closure of friendly branch

On visiting Lloyds Bank in Steyning on Tuesday December 1 I was horrified to see a notification of closure of the branch in April 2016.

This came as a shock as the friendly branch is always busy with customers. There has been no prior warning nor consultation regarding this closure. We have already lost the Halifax (part of the Lloyds group).

I am most concerned for the many elderly and disabled customers who rely on having a branch in Steyning.

They will have to travel to Storrington, Henfield or Shoreham to gain face to face contact in a branch, not an easy prospect with the lack of public transport.

Internet and telephone banking are fine when you know how to use a computer and have keen hearing.

However, for vulnerable customers these are not feasible options.

Steyning is a vibrant small town and Lloyds should be expanding its business here not contracting it.

Lloyds customers should unite to stop this closure.
