LETTER: Shame on council and developer

It will be interesting to see how long the elderly residents of Winterton Court will survive following the demolition of their homes - courtesy of their callous landlord, Saxon Weald.

Moving house - especially for those of advanced years - is considered to be one of the most stressful events one can experience. From her quoted comment it appears Cllr Clare Vickers - district council cabinet member for Living and Working Communities - has given the planned demolition of these purpose-built bungalows for the elderly her unwavering support.

How ironic then that these attractive homes for those of riper years were named after Horsham’s longest serving Conservative MP. Here I refer to Edward Turnour - better known as the 6th Earl Winterton who was elected to represent Horsham in Parliament at the tender age of 21 at a by-election in 1904 - continuing in office for the next 47 years.

Once again, we witness the unholy alliance between our burnt-out district council and a developer.

Shame on them both.
