LETTER: Radical change to school catchments

I object to the greenfields north of the A264 as the site for most of the housing required by the district and to an industrial estate and a supermarket. This proposal was launched upon unsuspecting residents in August, when many are on holiday.

A two-week extension of the consultation for the plan that determines the future of Horsham and its residents is nothing but lip service.

Much of this plan has not been clearly explained to residents. Most are unaware that this proposal is not only about the destruction of our greenbelt, and of the Strategic Gap between Horsham and Crawley.

It is not just about the environmental hazards. It is not just about Crawsham. It is not just about life in Rusper, Warnham, Colgate, Faygate. It is not just about the housing number distribution across the district. It is about our schools, our catchment areas, our roads and roundabouts and our train services.

Local residents are objecting to the fact that those of us in North Horsham and Roffey will lose catchment eligibility for Millais and Forest and will have to transport children to a school in Crawsham across the A264.

How often do catchment lines move so radically? Families moved here to be near the schools of their choice. This is extraordinary. Local residents object to this choice of site. This consultation should be halted as local residents have not been informed of the implications of this ill-considered proposal.

Local residents are objecting to the impact of this choice of site on train services at Littlehaven and Faygate.

A new station across the A264 will mean severe cuts in trains at Littlehaven and closure of Faygate by the rail network operator.

We in North Horsham, currently within reach of Littlehaven will not be able to use Parkway station as it is too far to walk to, parking is expensive, and also due to the congestion on Warnham/Holbrook/Roffey roundabouts from all these cars!

Think of all the people on the school run attempting to use these roundabouts! Families will be forced to buy a second car. The A264 will be impossibly congested. This will add hours to each day and thousands of pounds to each family’s budget.

This choice of site is unacceptable to local residents, and we do have alternatives, despite these not being mentioned in the document - how convenient for the developer!

You can object now to the greenfields north of the A264 as the preferred site for our share of the district’s housing: http://www.horsham.gov.uk/1632.aspx
