LETTER: Make provision for bowls facility

We were shocked to find out that Horsham District Council is proposing not to renew the lease of Horsham District Indoor Bowls Club, and is not including a bowls facility in the redevelopment of the area. All other sports seem to be catered for, either in the redevelopment or elsewhere.

We moved to Horsham just over two years ago and one of the major reasons for choosing Horsham was the existence of the indoor bowls club. With all the new houses being built in the area we are sure that there will be a lot of potential buyers who would see the bowls club as a plus point.

Closing the bowls club not only affects the present members and other local users, it will also mean that all the other clubs that we have fixtures with, in Sussex, Surrey, Kent and London, will lose games and therefore revenue.

At a time when participation in sport, by all ages, is being recommended by the medical profession and central government, it seems strange that our local council should take such a decision.

They MUST think again and make provision for an adequate bowls facility in their plans.
