Jigsaw supports the RSPCA

Jigsaw educates children with an autism spectrum disorder at its school base on Dunsfold Park and its Life Skills Centre in Guildford. Set up in 1999, Jigsaw is celebrating its 15th Birthday this academic year and actively participates each year in raising money for other charities, both local and national.

Ann Winter and Katrina Tully of Guildford & District RSPCA had previously visited Jigsaw to host a special assembly and workshop on the work the Charity does along with sharing information on helping and caring for animals, giving pupils a very good basic understanding of the important work the RSPCA undertakes.

Jigsaw’s subsequent ‘RSPCA Charity Day’ was a great success with pupils making cakes, animal shaped biscuits, keyrings, bookmarks, butterfly mobiles and gift cards to sell around School. In addition, pupils could choose to come to school dressed as their favourite animal and during their PE/Dance lessons, had a specially themed ‘Animal Shapes and Movement’ class.

Stalls were set up around the School to sell the handmade goodies to staff and visitors with pupils raising a total of £120.75 from their hard work and creativity - as well as having a day filled with animal activities and fun.

Sarah Brown, Early Years, KS1-3 Curriculum co-ordinator at Jigsaw helped organise the visit and explained: “We were so grateful to Ann and Katrina for taking the time to run the initial assembly as this gave our pupils a very good understanding of what the RSPCA does and really helped them engage with the fundraising activities.”

Ann Winter of Guildford & District RSPCA also said: “It has been extremely rewarding to visit Jigsaw to not only help raise awareness of animal welfare needs and the work of the RSPCA but also to see pupils get behind their fundraising projects so enthusiastically. Thank you to all the staff and pupils at Jigsaw for their support.”
