Horsham In Bloom Annual Presentation of Awards.

On Thursday 3rd October Neighbourhood cups were presented by the Forest Parish Council to the volunteer group of New Street gardens for their hard work; to Mr Seton Wood for many years of hard work at Amberley Close Allotments, by North Horsham Parish Council; to Mr & Mrs Francis of Lakeside for their garden by Denne Parish Council and to Mr & Mrs Pengelly of Rusham’s Road for their garden by Trafalgar Parish Council.

Four local pubs also received an award for their very colourful hanging baskets. Every year they provide cascades of colour and blossom to enhance their premises. The Black Jug received the Gold award for their beautiful and tidy floral frontage, and side garden, the Kings Arms received Silver for their lovely hanging baskets, the Foresters Arms received bronze and the Rising Sun received a commendation for brightening up their frontage.

The Allotments had a lovely hot summer after a damp and very cold start. This led to late vegetables for all but our allotment holders are committed to getting results and persevere despite some set backs.

The overall winner of the Allotment Competition was Mr David Frost of Bennetts Allotment Society who received a certificate and a Gold cup. He has an interesting organic allotment and some unusual remedies to deter pests. Mr Ray Bathie received silver and Mr Rob Atfield bronze. Sally Birchmore was Best New entrant and there were six commendations. The Awards were presented by Jean Griffin local celebrity and RHS judge.

The Best Summer Front Garden Award was presented to Mrs Mary Humphry whose beautiful garden impressed the judges because of a consistent high standard throughout; Mr Les Hollman received silver and Mr David Parker bronze. We thank Hiller Garden Centre for sponsoring this category of the competition and Terry Clark in particular for presenting the awards. The garden centre also sponsors the Most Eye Catching Container Competition. The winner was Mrs Mary Humphry. Mr and Mrs Norman Smith were second and Mr Neil Rowley third.

In the Community Services category of awards there were many residents from various groups.

Potters Place won Gold for their beautiful garden and further awards went to Lavinia House (Age U.K.) who received a Silver; Horsham Museum, Bronze, and a commendation went to London Road Methodist Church. We would like to thank Derek Santer, former chairman of Horsham & District Horticultural Society for presenting these awards.
