Gold award for Cranleigh hat-trick girls in Biathlon

Five pupils from Cranleigh Preparatory School represented their school in the finals held at the Olympic Park last weekend. Martine, Lulu, Jess & Maya (U12 Girls) and Piers (U13 Boys).

For the girls it was only their third competition together as a team and their third gold placing.

They first won the U12’s Surrey Schools Biathlon Team title, with Martine also winning the Gold Trophy and the Individual title of U12 Girls Surrey Schools Biathlon Champion at this event held at K2, Crawley on the 13th October 2013 (this was the preliminary heat for the finals Saturday).

They went on to win their second competition together the following month, the National British Modern Biathlon Championships held in Solihull on the 30th November 2013.

The competition on Saturday was only their third competition competing together and their third gold victory. Martine was also awarded the individual 4th place trophy from a field of 117 national finalists.

Fantastic efforts from all the girls, with swim PB’s (Personal Bests) all around and an impressive points lead;

On the Sunday it was the boys turn and Piers represented Cranleigh School in the U13 Boys, collecting the 5th place trophy from a field of 107 participating athletes.

Piers had qualified for the event by winning the South East Region Schools Biathlon Championships held at Medway Park on the 12th October 2013.
