Sunday September 28 was a beautiful, sunny and warm day on which The Mayor of Arundel, Councillor Michael Tu, held his Civic Service.

The theme of the Service and, indeed, the day was ‘nurturing the community’ and the afternoon started with the Arundel and Littlehampton District Scout band preceding the procession of The Mayor and Mayoress, Town Clerk and Councillors from Arundel Town Hall to Arundel Cathedral where the service was held this year. They were met on arrival, at the Cathedral, by the local Scout and Guiding groups who formed a guard of honour at the entrance. Both local schools, St Philip’s Catholic Primary and Arundel Church of England, had formed a joint choir for the occasion and they sang beautifully for the awaiting congregation.

The ecumenical service was led by Canon Tim Madeley with the Gospel read by Pastor Steve Lomas, the Sermon given by Deacon David Clifton and the Prayers of Intercession read by The Rt. Rev. David Farrer.

The Cathedral and St Nicholas Church choir joined together for the Service and their singing was enjoyed by a full Cathedral of invited local dignitaries, residents and family and friends of the young people taking part.

After the Service the Councillors and visiting dignitaries processed back to the Town Hall to receive a March Past and salute from the Scouting and Guiding movement. It was a lovely sight to see, the youth of Arundel looking so smart and happy. The afternoon concluded with a reception at The Town Hall, where, due to the glorious weather a delicious buffet was consumed on the Town Hall’s balcony with its stunning views over the town and surroundings. Councillor Michael Tu gave a wonderful speech to all gathered and presented a bouquet to his Mayoress, Poppy Tu.
