Legendary actress and conservationist Virginia McKenna OBE, and her son Will Travers OBE, President of the Born Free Foundation, will be special guests at the event which will be held in the presence of Her Grace the Duchess of Richmond and a number of other special guests. The concert will feature a host of classical and operatic favourites performed under the direction of internationally renowned conductor, Crispin Ward. Sopranos Erin Alexander and Rhian Cookson, Tenor Adam Hoskins and Bass Mathew Mellor are amongst the vocal soloists confirmed for the day, which is just one of the event to take place this year in honour of Born Free’s 30th anniversary.

Virginia described the event as the perfect way to start the Christmas period, saying: “I am very much looking forward to the day and anticipate a vibrant, exciting and engaging atmosphere. A delightful and very special venue, a delicious tea and wonderful music - what more could one ask for?”

University chamber orchestra conductor Crispin Ward said: “This promises to be a spectacular night in one of the country’s most beautiful buildings, and will raise awareness and support for the Born Free Foundation. The concert is one of many our ensembles will undertake this year to raise tens of thousands of pounds for charities both at home and abroad. The Chamber Orchestra is one of five orchestras in the music department, which is now one of the largest of its kind in the UK.”

Guests will also be able to enter a prize draw and browse a selection of Born Free’s Christmas merchandise, whilst sipping a glass of champagne next to roaring log fires. Money raised will go to support Born Free’s work in its thirtieth anniversary year.
