A mixed group of regulars and newcomers turned up for the charity boot camp in Horsham Park. The session was generously donated by Horsham Boot Camps run by Andrew Wilson. Said Andrew, “Samaritans do such good work it’s a cause I really wanted to support and this seemed to be a fun way to do it.” Andrew ran the boot camp free of charge and participants were invited to donate money to the Samaritans instead of their normal fees.

The session was fast and furious with a number of team events leading to a lot of friendly rivalry, cries of “cheat” and “where’s the DRS when you need it?” To aid their recovery participants were treated to sandwiches, home made cake and fruit punch as a reward for their endeavours.

“We really appreciate the effort that everyone put in, especially Andrew. As a self funding organisation it’s always a struggle to finance the upkeep and running of our branch so every contribution is very welcome,” said Sue Jago, Director of the local Samaritans’ branch.

Samaritans is a self-funded charity that offers a safe and non-judgemental haven for people to talk through their emotional distress and fears in complete confidence. The national help line phone number is 08457 909090 but callers can also visit the branch at 21 Denne Road, Horsham as well as using the texting and emailing service. Samaritans of Horsham & Crawley will be running an Awareness Week in Horsham from 29th September to 5th October when there will be detailed information about their work available at a number of points throughout the town.

Horsham Bootcamp operates in Horsham Park next to the North Parade car park every day of the week except Mondays and Fridays. The first session is free and £5 thereafter. Further information can be found on www.horshambootcamps.com or on Horsham.Bootcamps Facebook page.
