The show is always one of the most prestigious engagements in the school’s calendar. This year, the day marked the Show’s 800th anniversary, attracting over half a million spectators and 7000 participants from around the world.

The 120 young instrumentalists from Christ’s Hospital played magnificently as they marched three miles in the pouring rain between Bank and Aldwych.

Band Captain Max Thomas, aged 17, said: “I am very proud of everyone for their efforts and resilience throughout the day. Marching in the pouring rain wasn’t easy.

“The Lord Mayor’s Show is a highlight of the Band’s year, and the packed crowds on the London streets always make it worthwhile. I couldn’t be prouder of all of us, and I won’t forget this for a long time to come.”

The Christ’s Hospital Band was first invited to be part of this famous procession in 1981 and so impressed the Lord Mayor that it has been invited to participate ever since.

At least four Old Blues (former pupils) have served as Lord Mayor of the City of London. The show marked the first day of office for the new Lord Mayor, Lord Mountevans who is also a member of CH’s Council of Almoners (Trustee) and a strong supporter of the School.
