A £100,000 bid to buy the field on Courtmead Road was rejected by Mid Sussex District Council last month as it was only 11% of market value.

Cuckfield resident Flis Irving described the reason for refusal as ‘misleading’,

“This inflated figure is only relevant if such over development is allowed to succeed,” she said.

“We should feel confident that, given the many historic objections, these current plans will be rejected and the value of the play meadow fall to a realistic level. This would reduce the disparity between this figure and the community bid, making a further approach to Mid Sussex District Council to keep the area as a green space a possibility.”

A bid has been submitted to build one dwelling on the land.

“This does not have to be the end,” Flis added.

She is urging residents to send objections to planning officer Steven King at Mid Sussex District Council offices or to [email protected] quoting application number 14/03388/FUL.
