A PLAN to demolish existing buildings and build six homes at the Nutbourne Business Centre has been refused
The planning application, submitted to Chichester District Council in November, was refused partly because of ‘the contrived nature of the development and incongruous relationship with the surrounding development and existing land uses’.
The business centre, along the A259 Main Road, Nutbourne, had been objected to by Southbourne Parish Council, who described it as ‘undesirable backfilling’.
The parish council had also noted the development would be very close to a nearby stream, and the area was liable to flooding.
If the plan had gone ahead, it would have seen the six dwellings erected along with garages and an access road.
The district council’s report on the proposal raised a number of other concerns, including its proximity to an existing breakers yard, which it said would result in an ‘unacceptable level’ of harm to the residential amenity of any future occupiers of the proposed new dwellings.
Concern was also raised about the ‘unacceptably poor mix of market housing’, as the development proposed three large four-bedroom detached properties.
