“It’s so difficult and being able to live there as well is so good.”

They said their main aim was to create a ‘community’ pub for nearby residents.

“The way of best describing it is we wanted to have that rustic, country-pub feeling within Chichester,” Charlotte added.

“We want people to stay in Chichester so they can still get that relaxing country, sitting-by-the-fire atmosphere.”

The couple bought the business after it went on the market in October.

The Apple and Crate replaces previous restaurant Vintage
Pub Bistro.

The couple ran Wellies restaurant together, in West Stoke, but said they jumped at the chance to move to Chichester.

Charlotte said she felt ‘like a child’ as the opening day came closer. They live in West Ashling at the moment but will soon be moving above the pub.

The pair were both born and went to school in Chichester.

Martin trained at Chichester College and Charlotte said: “Funnily, the chef we’ve got, they haven’t seen each other for ten years and it turns out they trained together. It’s like Chichester College reunited.”
