The Caterways store, in Merryfield Drive, is set to re-open on Thursday (November 5) after two weeks of refurbishment works.

The popular shop has been taken over by Ramesh Shingadia, owner of the award-winning Southwater Post Office and Londis convenience store, from previous owners Alan and Jean Clark who ran the store for more than 20 years.

Mr Shingadia closed the shop on October 22 to carry out improvements. He has announced as part of the improvements a new Post Office will be created which is set to be up and running by December 1.

Mr Shingadia said: “I am delighted to be gaining a Post Office and I am sure my existing customers and the whole community will be thrilled to hear the news.

“The Caterways community will really benefit from having a Post Office within my centrally located supermarket opposite the green, with lots of free parking, without the need to travel into town for most Post Office transactions.

“It will make their lives much easier having a nearby Post Office which is open seven days a week from early until late.”

Post Office services will be available throughout the store’s opening hours next month: Monday – Sunday: 6.30am – 10pm. This means the branch will open an impressive 108 hours and 30 minutes a week, says the PO.

It will be one of the new-style local branches with a low-screened, open-plan Post Office service point carefully integrated into the retail counter. Customers will be able to carry out a wide range of Post Office transactions alongside retail purchases.

Business partner Amish Shingadia said: “We are absolutely delighted to reopen the door again under the new banner of LondisCaterways and Post Office.

“The store was very dated and desperately needed upgrading.

“We have been in store for over five months which gave us the change to listen to our customers, learn about their needs and to redesign the store around them.

“We are very proud to announce that the new store will be the latest in store design and presentation, have an ATM and also a Post Office Local.”
