Having held the role since 1998, Mr Tripcony felt it was time to hand over to a younger man.

“I have met many well known experts, many of whom have appeared on television, Lars Tharp, Geofrey Godden, Paul Atterbury, Ian Pickford and David Sandon to name a few, covering a wide range of topics in the talks,” he said.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the club members and committee for all their support over the years, and know they are all looking forward to working with the new chairman, local auctioneer Paul Campbell, who has a very broad knowledge of the antique trade. I wish him the very best in his new post.”

Mr Campbell said it was a privilege to chair the friendly club.

“The lecture theatre at Worthing Library is an ideal venue for the excellent speakers we get,” he said.

“Last month, it was art historian Andrew Graham-Dixon, who is always on the BBC, complimented the club and its set up.

“We have the Reginald Ballum story in April, celebrity auctioneer Catherine Southon on July 5 and Ian Pickford from Antiques Roadshow in October. It’s very exciting.”

The club meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. Email [email protected] for more information.
