Stephen Andrew Jackson, 50, who was being sought over a murder in Spain, was held after police were alerted to a catamaran arriving at the marina on Monday night, May 23.

Spanish authorities had issued a European Arrest Warrant for the Briton, which will be dealt with following legal proceedings in the UK.

Jackson appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, May 25, charged with facilitating illegal entry into the UK but did not enter a plea.

Nine of the Albanian men pleaded guilty to attempting to enter the UK illegally.

Eight were sentenced to eight weeks in prison while one was handed a 16-week jail term.

They will all be removed from the UK at the end of their sentences, the Home office said.

The other eight Albanian men have been detained pending their removal from the country.

Jackson, of no fixed address, was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on June 24.

The catamaran has been seized and a court application made for its forfeiture.

The arrests were made at around 10pm on Monday night after officers intercepted the vessel as it sailed into Chichester Marina.
