She has been named by Sussex Police as 39-year-old Claire Louise Richards.

A post-mortem examination was carried out at Worthing Hospital on Saturday, but proved inconclusive, and her
death is currently being treated by officers as unexplained.

Police said further forensic tests were to be carried out in order to help establish the cause of death.

Next-door neighbour Charles Meanley, 67, said he spoke to the woman regularly, in passing.

He said: “She used to be only too pleased to talk to you. She was one of those chatterbox-type people.

“She was a person who mainly kept to herself, but I spoke to her in passing.

“I don’t think anyone else knew her well in the road, only to say hello.”
