The Angmering School was awarded a batch of prizes in the 2016 Be Your Best Rock Challenge.
The school finished fifth in the national competition’s Southern Open Final B, which took place at Portsmouth Guildhall this week.
Ten schools from across seven southern counties competed and the event attracted a large audience.
Ian Readhead, a director of the Be Your Best Foundation, said: “Another great evening, it was of a superb quality with huge enthusiasm and really a privilege to watch once again.
“The standard was just incredible and it is great that we continue to have such great spirit at Rock Challenge events.”
The Angmering School received eight awards of excellence, for choreography, concept, drama, soundtrack, entertainment, lighting, stage crew and video performance, plus the award for performers’ choice, the Rock Challenge Award for School Community Support and the Be Your Best Foundation Award for Positive Inclusion.
Foundation director Glyn Wright said: “Another stunning evening with Rock Challenge, it was absolutely brilliant a very high standard with young people showing what they can really do.”
The Angmering School piece was entitled Hansel and Gretel, which focused on domestic violence and drug abuse.
Explaining the entry in the programme, the school said: “Research has proven that victims of domestic violence have a higher incidence of drug abuse, especially if it occurs in childhood.
“Poverty stricken Gretel craves normality, whereas Hansel is seduced by a more dangerous form of escapism. Unable to see the wood for the trees, Hansel is led down a devastating path he is unable to return home from.”
