Francis Maude, MP for Horsham, Helena Croft, Horsham District Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Horsham Town, district and county councillor Jim Rae, a number of Horsham Rotarians and the girl’s parents were all present to witness the official presentation of the Charter Certificate to Cara by the Rotary District Governor Doug Price.

Cara, 15, said: “As Millais students we are excited to have this enriching opportunity for ourselves and are looking forward to representing our school in the wider local, national and international community”.

She continued: “Our Interact club is the first to be founded in Horsham and we are all excited by its prospects. Already we have decided to support both Oxfam and St Catherine’s Hospice through our fundraising and campaigning over the next school year. Furthermore, plans are already underway for our first charity event of this term.”

Millais School’s Enrichment and Community Awareness co-ordinator, Andy Skinner, said: “As a school we are delighted that Cara and her fellow Interactors have taken up this challenge. Together, the girls are a formidable team who all show maturity beyond their years. They are irrepressible campaigners and fund raisers who are determined to be a part of the change they want to see in the community, I am very proud of them.”

The Rotary Club of Horsham President, Dave Smith said: “The headteacher of Millais School, Leon Nettley, is a member of Horsham Rotary and therefore the school approached us last year regarding setting up an Interact Club.

“From the outset we were so impressed by Cara and her team that we knew instantly this was a project that would succeed and benefit the local community, many international projects and very importantly, the girls. The Rotary motto is ‘service over self’ and we believe that this is a great ethos to introduce to young people.”

“We look forward to supporting and encouraging The Interact Club of Millais Horsham in its exiting future and hope to be able to introduce Interact into more local schools in the months to come.”
