There he met the Easter Bunny as well as the family which owns the Grade II listed visitor attraction, the Stephenson Clarkes.

Mr Soames said: “It is always a pleasure to come here at the beginning of the season to wish it good luck for a warm busy summer, and I am very pleased to be here to support English Tourism Week and hope that it will bring many people as first time visitors to Borde Hill to see this splendid garden that I am pleased to have in my constituency.”

Borde Hill’s very own Easter Bunny was there as part of its Easter Eggsplorer Trail which runs until April 20.

The garden is also running an Easter Zoo on April 13 and a Mad Hatter’s Picnic Party on April 20.
