FARMERS markets in Shoreham and Steyning are competing in the Sussex Food and Drink Awards.

The popular markets are finalists in the Best Sussex Farmers Market category for 2013/14.

Wiston Estate Winery, based at North Farm, Washington, is a finalist in the Sussex Drink Producer of the Year category.

Nominations were reviewed by judges before the finalists were announced in June.

Voting is open until September 13 and the three with the most votes in each category will become grand finalists, having been re-considered by the awards judges.

The Sussex Food and Drink Awards, now in their eighth year, are the only awards that highlight, recognise and support Sussex farmers and producers and the businesses that sell and promote their produce.

Olympic gold medal winner Sally Gunnell, who lives in Steyning, is patron to the awards.

She said she is a great supporter of locally-produced food, believing that it is the way forward for a healthy lifestyle.
