Man charged with resisting arrest after Northchapel crash

A man has been charged with resisting arrest after a collision in Northchapel on Sunday morning (November 27).

Police were called to the A283 near Northchapel at 8.15am where a silver BMW estate car had left the road and collided with a tree. A police spokesman said: “The driver, a 42-year-old man from Petworth, left the vehicle.

“It was believed he suffered serious injuries from the collision.

“Officers traced him to a nearby address and attended. At the address there were two men, both were arrested.”

The spokesman said the 42-year-old suspected driver, who had suffered injuries, was arrested on suspicion of driving while over the limit for alcohol and drugs, also unfit through drugs, assaulting police and resisting arrest.

He was taken to St Richard’s Hospital to be checked over and has been bailed while police investigations continue.

The spokesman said Ronald Fogg, 75, retired of St Michael’s Close, Northchapel had been charged with criminal damage to a police radio and obstructing and resisting a constable in the execution of their duty.

He will appear at Worthing Magistrates’ Court on December 13.
