MAJOR roadworks have started at the A22 London Road junction with Imberhorne Lane in East Grinstead.
The works involve the upgrading of the traffic signal junction to provide capacity improvements.
There is also a requirement to construct a right turn lane facility on Imberhorne Lane to provide suitable access to the development site.
The works are a requirement of planning consent granted for the erection of retail units on the Bridge Park site.
The highway works need to be implemented before the retail units open later this year.
The project is entirely funded by developers and is expected to take eight weeks to be completed.
Due to the location of the works, delays are unavoidable.
West Sussex County Council is working closely with both the developer Property Investment Holdings and the contractor to minimise the disruption.
County Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, Pieter Montyn, said: “We are doing all we can to reduce the length of tailbacks motorists may experience.
“There is a legal obligation for this work to be carried out, and we ask road users to show patience while the work is being finished.”
