Barbershop Quartet Stepping Out played live to shoppers, and there was a bake off to find Burgess Hill’s top cake maker and mark the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Research.

Mr Goldfinch said: “Myrtle is a shining example of a more mature person and does not let age get in her way.

“She has a fantastically active life and we have heard about how she shares her positive attitude with other older people.

“This is why she is the perfect candidate for our role of Silver Savers Ambassador to help launch our discount day for senior citizens.

“They will be treated to a range of fantastic offers and discounts every Tuesday and I hope Myrtle will be one of the first to take advantage.”

Myrtle wants others who have retired from work to follow in her footsteps and keep busy.

She said: “I do think that keeping active is important, and thinking about what the future holds, even if it’s just what is happening next week. There’s no use just sitting there on your own.”
