After only having her hair trimmed for the past five years, Vidya Gobar from Maidenbower recently had it cut into a bob and donated her locks to the Little Princess Trust. She has also raised about £700 in sponsorship.

Vidya, who has seen family and friends suffer with cancer, said: “I saw the little girls on television who have cancer and have lost their hair and wear a scarf.”

She went to her regular hair salon, Cocos in Maidenbower Square, where senior stylist Amy Buchan did the deed.

Afterwards Vidya said: “I was very nervous think ‘is it going to grow again’, but once she cut it I felt really good that it was for a good cause.

“I thought of the people who don’t have hair and how happy they will be when they get a wig.

“This is God’s gift to me and I should share it. People share money, but this is something that’s yours.”

The hair will be shipped to the charity’s trusted wig manufacturer in China to be blended with at least five other hair donations to make one single wig.

These wigs are given to the charity free of charge. Vidya’s sponsorship money will help them buy wigs it is unable to get for free, often costing around £350 each. For more information go to www.littleprincesses.org.uk
