Large emergency services response as crash closes A24

Multiple emergency services have been scrambled to a crash which closed the A24.

The road is shut southbound from the Copsale turn off to McDonald’s, the AA said.

A car collided with a tree in the incident, according to a spokesman, but traffic is said to be coping well.

A spokesman for West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “The A24 Worthing Road is currently closed southbound between the junction for Mill Straight and Buckbarn crossroads following a road traffic collision.”

Two fire engines from Horsham Fire Station attended the crash, on March 11, along with the Heavy Rescue Tender from Crawley, he added.

The spokesman said: “Joint Fire Control was alerted to the incident at 9.08am this morning. Our crews booked away from the incident shortly after 10.30am.

“The road is expected to remain closed this morning, and drivers are urged to avoid the area for the time being.”

A police spokesman added: “Emergency services are dealing with a collision just north of the Buck Barn crossroads on the A24 Worthing Road.

“A car collided with a tree shortly before 9am on Thursday, March 11. A road closure is currently in place.”

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: “I can confirm we attended the scene following reports of an RTC at approximately 8.45am today.

“A woman was assessed and treated at the scene for injuries including leg injuries before being taken to Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.”
