Train services between Brighton, Worthing and Southampton Central have been cancelled and delayed this afternoon following level crossing problems at Lancing.

Brighton and Hove buses and the number 700 Stagecoach buses are accepting tickets.

The delays could last until around 5pm this evening, according to Southern Rail.

A spokesman for Network Rail said a technical fault had affected the barriers at Lancing so trains were unable to run through this area.

“Technicians are on their way to the scene,” said the spokesman.

“We cannot get the barriers down at Lancing level crossing and a technician is on the way.

“We were notified of the problem at 2.25pm.

“We hope to have the problem fixed in around an hour.

“We cannot allow trains through Lancing for safety reasons so have stopped trains across this bit of railway.

“We apologise for the delays and disruption this may cause to passengers, but hope to have the problem fixed as quickly as possible”
