Lancing Brownies celebrate 50th birthday

The third unit’s celebrations were held earlier this month at Lancing Methodist Church, in Chester Avenue, where they have been based since starting in the early 1960s.

On the day, 30 present and former Brownies were transported back in time by old photographs, memorabilia and craft tributes that were on display to represent the third unit through the decades.

Brownies took part in fork knitting, mosaic plate and Brownie uniform making, and former members added their own square of material onto the magic carpet created by the current pack.

Treena Beech, 40, senior Brownie leader, said: “The evening itself went very well and the people who attended seemed to enjoy it. It was a great mix of older Brownies and young current girls.”

The 50th celebration was marked with a decorated cake and a card signed by all the current girls.

Treena added: “I think it is brilliant that little

local packs are still existing and are still full and have been for several years.”
