Hurstpierpoint Film Society, which runs the cinema, has gained a distinction for film programming and a commendation for marketing and publicity in this year’s awards given out by the British Federation of Film Societies (BFFS).

In a major triumph twelve months ago, the BFFS named the fledgling organisation Best New Film Society 2012.

The society burst onto the local entertainment scene in September 2011 with an exciting mix of quality films for the whole community.

Films are shown with full surround sound at the purpose-built Players Theatre in the High Street, offering a real cinema experience at sensible prices.

Together with a licenced bar, low cost refreshments and homemade cakes, the venture is run entirely by volunteers and is a not-for-profit community initiative.

Chairman, David Saitch, said: “The British Federation of Film Societies is the umbrella organisation for the Community Cinema initiative, with over 600 member groups and to have received awards, while still a fledgling organisation, is fantastic achievement.”
