The event starts at 11am and the forecast is for a warm sunny day, so why not come along and add your support.

Every hour, around five people are diagnosed with cancer in the South East.

And that’s why Cancer Research UK has called on women in Horsham to fight back against this devastating disease by entering Race for Life 5k event.

Jenny Ainsworth, Cancer Research UK’s Horsham event manager, said: “Race for Life is non-competitive. It’s not about being fit or fast. Most women are able to walk 5k in an hour while chatting and having fun. Or they can choose to jog, run or even dance around the course if they prefer.”

Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life, in partnership with Tesco, is a women-only series of 5k, events which raise millions of pounds every year to help beat cancer sooner by funding life-saving research.

Last year, 1,752 women took part in Race for Life in Horsham and raised a fantastic £113,000. This year, organisers need women and girls to stride out to help raise £126,000.

Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research which is helping to save the lives of men, women and children across Sussex.

Cancer survival rates have doubled since the 1970s and Cancer Research UK’s work has been at the heart of that progress. But more funds and more supporters are needed to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.

Jenny continued: “Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not. The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Horsham to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
