Horsham residents left homeless: MP ‘very concerned’ by decision

Horsham MP Jeremy Quin has said he is ‘very concerned’ about a recent decision taken by a housing association which is set to leave 16 families homeless.

Sanctuary Housing sent out letters to residents in Eady Close, Horsham, last week stating they would no longer be renewing their tenancies which left many ‘frustrated’ and ‘outraged’.

The properties are set to be turned into social housing and tenants have been asked to ‘vacate’ their homes within the next two months.

Sanctuary have said they will be liaising closely with residents over the coming months to help find them a new place to live and have told current tenants who are affected by the decision to contact their local authority or Citizens Advice Bureau about their re-housing options.

Residents described the decision as ‘absolutely disgraceful’ and have contacted Mr Quin regarding the issue.

In response the Horsham MP said:“I was very concerned when this issue was raised with me. I have spoken to tenants that have been affected, to HDC and Sanctuary.

“It is extremely regrettable that Sanctuary having decided on this course of action did not discuss it in advance with HDC. They now accept they should have agreed with HDC a joint approach and consultation process with the tenants.

“I have sought and received confirmation from Sanctuary that they will now be acting collaboratively with HDC and will work closely to help their tenants, with several of whom they have a long standing relationship.

“I will be keeping a close eye on this situation as it develops.”
