Homes project opens for hospital doctors

A new £1.3m pound project to provide accommodation for hospital doctors has opened in Worthing.

The Park Road Project will now provide studio flats, communal kitchens and landscaped gardens for 23 doctors working at Worthing Hospital.

The project is the result of a joint working by Worthing and Southlands Hospitals NHS Trust and housing association Worthing Homes.

The association will maintain the accommodation while the hospital will be in charge of day to day management as part of a 25-year agreement. Some of the flats have now been filled and the NHS is in charge of allocating places.

Property services director of Worthing Homes, Robin Roberts said: "This is the first keyworker project for both our organisations and clearly demonstrates how two local agencies can work together successfully to help support the local community."

Development Manager, Chris Pelling'“Fulford said: "Purpose built accommodation for doctors and nurses is in short supply and they are having to compete with everyone else for rented and shared flats."

There are now plans to work with the trust to provide a 30-bed development on Station Road.
