THERE was a time when the folk dance fire burned strongly in Shoreham; a time when folk dance flourished in Chichester- a time in fact when the whole of West Sussex was swept up in the great post-war folk dance renaissance.

Lodge Hill boasted a couple of folk dance residential courses a year- events well attended by dancers from East and West Sussex.

And keeping them on their toes was the thriving national body, the English Folk Dance and Song Society, with the influential Douglas Kennedy offering genuine inspiration.

Sadly those days have gone now laments Pat Mitchell, a stalwart of Chichester Folk Dance Group, a group which this year is celebrating its half century but is doing so with sharply reduced numbers.
