Elaine said: “I have worked here for nine years. I started in 2006, in the kitchen, and it progressed from there.

“We have some amazing regulars, some of them have been coming in for 30 years. It has seen a lot of changes over the years but it is settled now.

“This is a brilliant pub. I have some good staff and they are my back-up. It is friendly, cosy and warm. The food is amazing, too.

Shankly, her labrador, is the pub dog and popular with customers. “He is part of the furniture,” added Elaine.

She and Marco are planning a big party on February 3 next year to celebrate their second anniversary at the pub.

She said the Pub of the Year prize meant a lot the them.

“It is hard work but to get this prize is the icing on the cake,” said Elaine.
