Henfield’s community will celebrate the build-up to Christmas with a ‘living Advent’.

A different window or door will be opened each day for a short public performance, exhibition or event by a local group.

Festive-themed music and dance concerts, carol services, coffee mornings, sales and exhibitions have been arranged by all five local churches, the Guides and Scouts, school children, the Henfield Theatre Company, craft societies and charities.

Henfield Living Advent will begin on Tuesday December 1 with Light up Henfield by the Henfield branch of the Baden-Powell Guild.

Other events this year include the annual Christmas Starts Here concert put together by opera professional Sidonie Winter; a late night shopping evening with festive shops, stalls and entertainment; a demonstration by the Spinners and Weavers Group; a Sheep Trail for children all around the village; a concert by Patcham Silver Band; and a Christmas Extravaganza in aid of local charity, Know Dementia.

Children from the village school’s Glee Club will be performing song and dance routines and they are pleased to welcome local band Brass Fusion who are performing at the village hall.

For the first time Henfield Library will be launching an eleven day children’s ‘character hunt’ around the library from the start of Living Advent, concluding with a prize draw on the evening of December 11.

All events will take place in pubs and clubs, places of worship and education, shops and streets in and around the village.
