A JAZZ ensemble playing ‘healing music’ is returning to Steyning Jazz Club.

The Cloggz premièred last year to a rapturous audience at the jazz club, and the group has a CD launch planned for later this year.

Club member Colin Jilks said: “The music of The Cloggz was described by one jazz club owner recently as ‘healing music’.

“This wonderful band, headed by pianist Mark Edwards plays carefully-selected music from a wide array of composers and musical genres, from Tom Waits to Brad Mehldau, Ennio Morricone to John Williams.

“Many have described the sound as ‘cinematic’, taking in influences from jazz to tango to klezmer, with the ethos of always being understated, beautiful, melodic, acoustic music. Intricate ensemble playing intertwines with lyrical improvisation.”

The Cloggz are based in the Brighton area, and feature some of the UK’s leading Jazz musicians.

As well as Mark Edwards on piano and glockenspiel, the group also includes Julian Nicholas on saxophones, Ben Sarfas on violin, Neil Corin on accordion, Terry Pack on bass, Dave Trigwell on drums and Eden Townend on guitar.

They will visit the club at the Steyning Centre on Friday, May 2, at 8.30pm. Members and students £6, guests £10. Call Denis Cummings on 01903 814017 for information.
