A silver scuplpture of a ballerina is performing for drivers on the Sussex Road roundabout, while many other exhibits are on display throughout the town centre for the next two weeks.

Visitors are encouraged to follow the trail and discover not only new pieces of art, but also shops they might not have otherwise ventured into.

This is the second year the event has been organised by the Haywards Heath Community CIC, and is again supporting Sussex artists.

New for 2014 is a special live demonstration of street art in Victoria Park next Saturday (April 12).

From 10am and continuing throughout the day, younger children have the opportunity to get creative when set loose on a painting wall erected in the park.

Three Sussex Street artists will also be demonstrating their skills live and in public.

Marion Wilcock, one of the Haywards Heath Community CIC directors explained: “The artists have been given a completely free rein with their work.

“They come from different backgrounds and have different styles so we are really excited to see what evolves.

“We hope many people will come to the park and enjoy watching the work of these artists unfold.”

In the meantime, people are encouraged to pick up a Art trail leaflet from participating shops and businesses and explore this year’s offerings for themselves.

The Art trail starts at Grape and Grain in Broadway and heads up and along South Road and down Sussex Road, with a detour through The Orchards shopping centre as well.

One of the most original contributions can be found at Ecotecture, Sussex Road, where colourful and abstract caterpillars and mushroom-forms creap and crawl in the window display.

Meanwhile, also on Sussex Road Norman Hobbs electrical store is hosting a unicorn scultpture made from driftwood.

Co-owner Sue Walker-Reilly said: “So many people walk past the shop and stop to talk about it with other passers-by, it’s a fantastic community project and we are very pleased to display the artwork.”

Marion Wilcock added: “There are hopes to make this event a permanent fixture in Haywards Heath’s social calendar.”

All the artwork on display is all for sale and and it is hoped proceeds will help to make next year’s event even bigger and better.
