Have a say on proposed Lidl store

A PUBLIC consultation will be held on Friday to allow residents and others to comment on the planning application for a Lidl store in Shoreham.

Lidl are proposing a new store to open at Units 1 & 2 The Malthouse Estate, Brighton Road, Shoreham.

The consultation will take place at The Shoreham Centre, Pond Road between 10am and 7pm.

Lidl set up an online petition on October 23, and stated: “Our proposal will regenerate the site by replacing the dated industrial units with a modern, efficient discount food store.

“95% of Lidl’s offer is own brand products, generating an average annual turnover comparable to a Tesco Express (circa £3m). A large Waitrose, Tesco or Sainsbury’s could have a turnover of £20m to £50m.

“Lidl’s limited range of products and modest turnover will ensure that the impact on Shoreham town centre is negligible.

“The development would not only aid competition in Shoreham, but will also bring greater shopping choice to local residents and create up to 40 new local jobs.”

The planning application is expected to be submitted in January.

The consultation will give residents the chance to ask any questions, give opinions and learn about Lidl’s proposals.
