GP surgery reform could take place in Worthing, says MP

GP SURGERIES in Worthing could be among the first in the country to roll out the Government’s controversial new plans to extend their opening hours according to Conservative MP Sir Peter Bottomley.

The proposed plan involves GP surgeries in nine regions of England extending their opening hours to 8am-8pm seven days a week.

MP for Worthing West, Sir Peter Bottomley, said: “If Worthing is not selected in the first round of regions I think we will be quite likely to come in on the second or third round because Worthing is well known for its good doctors and health service.

“I think it’s worth trying out and I hope we will work with doctors, nurses and support staff to make sure they can maintain their family life and interests. Nobody wants to see them exploited.”

“I believe that many clinicians will be prepared, on reasonable terms, to offer a service which will be attractive to people in our community.

“I think the government will want volunteers to roll out the scheme. I hope nowadays hospitals and family doctors can make their own decisions within the NHS family.”
