Global stand against trafficking

Supporters of an anti-trafficking charity joined people around the world in walking to raise awareness of the issue at the weekend.

The A21 Campaign Walk to Freedom took place in different places across the world at on Saturday morning (October 18).

Here, a group started in Lintot Square, Southwater and walked to Horsham in solidarity of people affected by trafficking.

“It felt really powerful just to see a whole line of women walking gently from Southwater to Horsham.

“By the time we got to the Carfax Panino’s had set up tables for us and we had tea and cake. Lots of people were asking what we were doing it for.

“They did a similar walk in London and some people saw it on television.

“People were chuffed it was happening quite locally to them. It was a really powerful demonstration.”

Human trafficking is the illegal trade of people, mainly for the purposes of forced labour and sex trafficking.

The Horsham charity, Streetlight which helps people caught up in trafficking also took part.

Outreach team member Suzanne Clark said: “It was a privilege to be part of it and raise more awareness in Horsham, say we’re here and we are a groups that can support those who have been trafficked or prostituted. We can offer an arm of help.
