Girls stable following car collision

The 15-year-old was taken to St George’s Hospital in London by air ambulance after the silver Peugeot 206 she was travelling as a passenger in collided with a parked Mercedes in Alinora Avenue at around 5.10pm.

The girl remains in intensive care but is conscious. Another girl injured in the collision is in a stable condition at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Two men, aged 20 and 21, both from Worthing, were arrested at the scene of the crash on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol and of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The 20-year old man has been released without charge and the 21-year-old man has been released on bail until 18 June.

Residents of Alinora Avenue who witnessed the incident described hearing a loud bang before seeing the Peugeot ‘shunt’ the Mercedes 10-15 yards up the road.

Five people were inside the car when it crashed – two men, two girls and an 18-year-old woman. Firefighters cut the roof from the Peugeot to help free the girls trapped in the back. The woman travelling in the car was able to free herself from the wreckage.

The road was closed in both directions on the evening of the crash while police carried out their investigation.
