Two Littlehampton senior music groups, Sing 4 Fun and Sounds Better, combined to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday with traditional songs, pieces and readings associated with both Elizabeth I and Elizabeth II.

Marilyn Hurdwell, one of the organisers, said: “We enjoyed a spectacular sunny garden party fit for a Queen on the very afternoon of her 90th birthday.

“As well as enjoying delicious al fresco tea, we had on the one hand madrigals, recorders and Greensleeves, and on the other hand guitar, folk songs, music hall and patriotic Proms songs as our finale.

“Our kind hostess’s house and garden were suitably festooned with colourful bunting and guests dressed up in red, white and blue.”

The party also celebrated the 400th anniversary of the death of Shakespeare with brass music from A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Henry V, and readings such as ‘This royal throne of kings’ and ‘If music be the food of love’.

Marilyn added: “A good time was had by all.”
