The free sessions are being held as part of National Drowning Prevention Week and will teach youngsters basic safety advice, first aid and CPR skills as well as fun games and rescue activities in the pool.

Drowning Prevention Week is a national campaign run by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS) and aims to reduce the number of drowning and near drowning incidents that occur in the UK every year, by showing people how to be safe near water.

Over 400 people drown in the UK each year and drowning is the 3rd highest cause of accidental death of children in the UK.

Claire Matthews, contract swim development manager for Places for People said: “We’re pleased to be involved in this year’s RLSS campaign.

“The event comes at the perfect time of year, just before the Summer holidays, where lots of children are out and about near the water.

“Our sessions are designed to be informative and fun for children and they will take away some practical skills”.
