Fourth Angus Rowland ForgetMeNot looking to add to £17k raised for charity

The event which has raised £17K in the past will start and finish at Staplefield Village Hall on Cuckfield Road and is open to all for a choice of a 6.5 mile walk on muddy rural footpaths or a one mile walk mainly on roads.

Angus Rowland was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid leukaemia in October 2010. Since he died in 2011 his parents Elizabeth and Jonathan and his brother Edward set up the Angus Rowland Forget Me Not Fund to raise money for charity.

Registration will open at Staplefield village hall at 9am for walkers and 10am for runners and participants can either register on the day or enter online at leukaemialymphomaresearch.org.uk/event/running-walking/angus-rowland-forget-me-not-walk-run-2014.

Entry gained by donation, organisers suggest £10 adult and £5 child. This will include a T-shirt and wristband or bring along a T-shirt from a previous event.

Angus Rowland was 13 when he was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia in October 2010.

Despite five months of chemotherapy, all as an inpatient in London, his leukaemia would not go into remission.

Angus was courageous and he died at home in Staplefield in May 2011 aged 14, surrounded by family and friends.

Angus had lived in Staplefield all his life. He loved living in Sussex, playing his music, laughing with friends and being with his dog Molly. He was a very popular and fun-loving teenager.

The remission rate for AML is much lower than the more common form of childhood leukaemia and is very difficult to treat in teenagers.

Although much is known about AML at a molecular level this has not translated into effective treatments.

His family and friends have set up The Angus Rowland ForgetMeNot Fund to fund research to bridge this research into treatment gap and provide treatments for young people like Angus.

Since May 2011 they have raised over £125 000, which is a lasting tribute to Angus’s life.
