Five generations of women, all living in Worthing

BABY Eva had a difficult journey into the world but she is now thriving, thanks to care at Worthing Hospital.

Her birth brought together five generations of women in the family, all living in the Worthing area.

Eva was born at 37½ weeks by emergency C-section.

Mum Sian Northmore, 26, of Normandy Road, said: “I had gone into hospital early because I had not felt the baby move properly and was concerned.

“The baby’s heartbeat was showing she had some signs of distress. My waters had started to break so they examined me and discovered meconium in the waters. This meant that they had to deliver her straightaway.

“She was a very unexpected and tiny, 4lb 8oz, surprising at the time because she was classed as full term.”

Examination of the placenta revealed that it had aged prematurely, so was not working properly.

Eva was unable to maintain her own blood sugar levels so she was taken into special care for a few days.

Sian said: “I could not fault the care she has been given and the staff were all so supportive, especially when I was discharged and had to leave her there.

“She was sent home when she was 11 days old and has been thriving ever since.”

The five generations were together on Christmas Day. Joining Eva and mum Sian were grandmother, Tanya Stoner, 49, of Arundel Road; great grandmother Linda Ford, 65, of Broomfield Avenue; and great great grandmother Maud Smith, 94, of Rosemary Mount Care Home, Chesswood Road.
